Why Family Photos Matter (Even When It’s Challenging)

To be honest, family photoshoots with young children are not an easy feat.

Most family shoots are short and usually happen on weekends —

and fellow wedding photographers will understand how precious weekends are.

Postponements are common.

Kids might not be feeling well on the day itself.

And you need a lot of energy.

A lot of patience.

More than you think.

So why do I still choose to take on family shoots with young kids, despite all these challenges?

Because I’m a parent too.

I understand.

Kids are special.

Their quirks, their laughter, their unpredictable smiles — they’re contagious.

They surprise us.

They show us the unexpected.

They show us their “messy” side.

And honestly… that’s what I want.

I love watching their interactions with their parents —

the quiet reassurance, the playful teasing.

Because in those moments, they’re not performing.

They’re simply showing us who they really are.

As a father of three, I often look back at old photos of my kids -

reliving those younger days,

and quietly realising just how much they’ve grown.

And through my work,

I hope to give my clients the same chance —

to relive these moments, long after the days have passed.
